AD (the simple acronym for Analytical Divinity) is the brainchild of singer, producer, and sound manipulator Shamus Sullivan. He currently resides in Vacaville, conveniently located in between Sacramento and San Francisco. As an eclectic electronic artist, his music is difficult to define with labels and genres. AD incorporates psychedelic ambience, symphonic strings, and rhythmic vocal patterns with elements of trip-hop and industrial, resulting in a dramatic auditory landscape. The concept behind AD revolves around blending dualities and conveying a balance of chaos and order. AD takes inspiration from science fiction, cosmology, alternate perceptions, and certain musical influences including Bjork, Nine Inch Nails, Animal Collective and Tool as well as many others.
Aside from the occasional revolving door of guest artists, AD is predominantly a solo live act consisting of a laptop, midi controllers, bass, effects pedals, and Sullivan’s vocals. What may appear to be a simple DJ set up turns out to be an ever-evolving sonic laboratory, emulating the sensations of a futuristic rock show. AD works closely with his visually creative counterpart Subliminal Twin, who provides original video art projected on stage during his live performance. Together they create a vibrant audiovisual experience, bringing the songs to life with colorfully distorted displays of reality.
AD has played a handful of gigs from Sacramento to Santa Cruz, performing with a wide array of bands and DJs from all over California along the way. AD intends to continue bridging the gap between rock shows and indie-electronic gatherings in order to bring together an eclectic range of fans and diversify the music scene.
In a world when the future was yesterday, the constant advancement of technology and directions of music will continue to have many new faces and new forms of expression. AD is one artist's attempt at integrating and adapting to the new paradigm.
